Description

Machine screws are differentiated from other screws by two characteristics:
1) ASME dictates that their diameter must not exceed 3/4 in.;
2) they have a flat end and uniform threads.
These differences do not diminish their versatility, as they are widely used in anything from machinery to electrical components to instruments. Their wide variety of head styles lends them to unique applications that require specific installation, surface profiles, extra grip, or aesthetic appeal.

Machine screws are used in conjunction with tapped holes or nuts, although the nuts are not always necessary. They are driven into a pre-drilled hole with a drill or screwdriver and often do not need more connection power (this depends on the application). Common Types of Machine Screw Heads and Their Applications
Pan Head Screws: Wide, circular head with a flat bearing surface; ideal for machinery and automotive parts.
Binder Head Screws: Thick heads with deep slots and indentations under the bearing side; used in electrical applications and binding material swatches.
